Greetings,
While the Gerontology Wiki will not be run like material on Wikipedia (for example, we will allow article creation of marginally notable supercentenarians), we do expect that the Gerontology Wiki will maintain a scientific focus and perspective. There's a reason this is called the "Gerontology" Wiki...this is not the "Supercentenarian Fan Club" Wiki. However, I do understand that, because the WOP Wiki merged into this one, at the moment there is a major emphasis on just the aspects of maximum human lifespan. That said, whichever article you create, it needs to be something that is worthwhile/useful for our Gerontology Wiki. We will run this as an "encyclopedia," not a fan club. Thus, we don't need articles on someone who is only the 500th-oldest living person or something like that. Let's start with the major concepts dealing with the subject area: the need for age validation; separation of validated from unvalidated data; the need to understand the underlying parameters and context of research dating back 110+ years ago.
I'll have more to say on this later, but this is a start. Contributions towards the larger goals: helping to educate the world's population as to how long humans really live, making it easier for people to live longer (through human-interest stories that give examples of how supercentenarians attained their maximum longevity benefit), et cetera are appreciated. Once people see that we are here and serious about this, I expect those contributing to expand greatly.Ryoung122 (talk) 16:52, September 29, 2015 (UTC)
