Hj Abd Razak Matassan (1901? – fl. 16 June 2012) was a Brunei supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG). If his claimed age is true, he would be the oldest person ever from Brunei.
Biography[]
Abd Razak Matassan claimed to have been born in Kg Burung Pingai in the Brunei-Muara District, Brunei in 1901. He was the second youngest of six siblings. He married Hjh Salmah Laham in 1932 and was blessed with two children. His oldest child died in 2007. Known for his religious zeal, Hj Abd Razak began teaching religious studies to the community in his own time during his thirties. He was also the third imam of Kg Layong. Apart from teaching the villagers how to pray and recite the Quran, he was also a spiritual healer under the instruction of a religious man from Indonesia known as Salleh Juman. In the Tutong District, Hj Abd Razak was also celebrated among the locals for his vast experience as an established zikir teacher. Throughout his life, the former voluntary religious teacher remained self-sufficient through gardening and livestock farming.
Abd Razak Matassan was last reported to be alive in June 2012 when he celebrated his claimed 111th birthday on 16 June 2012 when he lived in Kg Layong, Brunei.[1] During the ceremony, Hj Abd Razak also received financial aid and daily necessities from various sponsors. He was reported to be oldest living man in Brunei then.
