Agnes Cecilia Bostrom (née Abrahamsson) [Swedish: Agnes Cecilia Boström] (29 April 1912 – 16 November 2024) was a Swedish supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in Sweden at the time of her death. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Agnes Bostrom was born as Agnes Cecilia Eriksson in the village of Tarasjonas, near Ramsele, Vasternorrland County, Sweden on 29 April 1912, as the fifth child of eight children of Erik-Petter and Anna-Marta Abrahamsson. Her mother lived to be 98 and her maternal uncle lived to 105. At some point, she married the carpenter Gottfrid Bostrom. In 1940, they bought a farm in Ramsås, where she dedicated herself to caring for her home and family while managing the farm. They had a son together. In 1969, she became a widow after her husband died following an accident a few years earlier, and in 1993, her son Stig died in a traffic accident. In the 1980s, she moved to Alandsbro.

She had many interests and hobbies, including reading and doing crossword puzzles. In her 90s, she also participated in various activities organized by the pensioners’ association, such as qigong, gymnastics, and cooking. Even at the age of 109, Agnes continued to maintain an independent lifestyle, living alone in her apartment.

On 9 April 2022, following the death of 112-year-old Flarid Lagerlund, she became the oldest living Swedish-born person.

On 20 April 2022, she celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian.

On 16 October 2024, following the death of 112-year-old Gunborg Hancock, she became the oldest living person in Sweden and the oldest living person in the Nordic countries.

Agnes Bostrom died in Alandsbro, Vasternorrland County, Sweden, on 16 November 2024, at the age of 112 years, 201 days. Following her death, then 109-year-old Annie Sjostrom became the oldest living person in Sweden.
