Agnes Tittel (née Freibus; 26 January 1890 – 3 March 2000) was a validated American supercentenarian.
Biography[]
Agnes Tittel was born in Wilson, Ellsworth County, Kansas, USA, on 26 January 1890. She was born to Russian immigrant parents John and Anna Freibus. They fled their country due to poverty and war.
First, they moved to Cape Town, South Africa, before settling in United States. She had nine siblings in total; of which she was the second-oldest. One of them, a sister, lived to be 97. Tittel’s family were struggling farmers, and several of the children couldn’t afford to go to school. Tittel did, however, but couldn’t complete her education since she was needed in the household. When she was a child, she once had a part of her finger accidentally cut off with a hatchet.
She married John Tittel in Ness City in 1916. She started working as a maid while he was a farmer. The couple had nine children in total. She became a widow in 1969. When she was in her 80s, she used to make quilts for charitable causes.
She moved to a nursing home at age 96. She was in a wheelchair on the occasion of her 108th birthday in 1998. She had recently stopped reading books. On her 110th birthday, she was said to be still mentally sharp.
Agnes Tittel died in Ness City, Kansas, USA, on 3 March 2000, at the age of 110 years, 37 days.
