Agora Rafte (15 March 1890? – 22 March 2004) was a Greek-born Romanian supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Agora Rafte claimed that she was born in Negrita, Greece near Thessaloniki on 15 March 1890 at a time when Macedonia was Greek land from an Aromanian family. She had 6 children from her first marriage until she was widowed at the age of 30. Later in 1932, she left Greece with his family and settled in the village of Rahman Siclar in the Quadrilater, Bulgaria with her second husband and she had two more child's with her second husband. In 1940, she moved to Dobrogea after Bulgarians banished her family. After a short period spent in the village of Manasia, in Ialomita, she settled with her second husband, Argir Rafte, in the village of Stejarul in Tulcea County, Romania. In 1953, he joined the collective, like all the inhabitants of the village. In 1959, her husband was arrested and the woman was tortured by the communists. They confiscated all his property. Arghir Rafte returned from prison in 1964.
Agora Rafte died in Stejaru, Romania on 22 March 2004 at the claimed age of 114 years, 7 days. She had 8 children and 30 grandchildren and as many great-grandchildren. At the time of her death she was believed to be oldest living woman in Romania then.
