Ai Suganoya [Japanese: 菅谷藍] (10 May 1908 - fl. 31 March 2022) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She is currently in Limbo on the World Supercentenarian Rankings List.

Biography

Ai Suganoya was born in Nagai, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan on 10 May 1908. She was six child in family and had 7 siblings. In her youth, she had a dream to become a writer. In 1927, she graduated from Nagai Senior High School.

In 1934, she married to a man with the surname Suganoya. Four years after marriage, her husband died of tuberculosis. They didn't have any children. According to Suganoya, while she was married, she was busy and completely forgot her dream of becoming a writer. During World War II, she worked at a military factory in Osaka City. She wrote several novels during her life.

After her sister's husband died, they moved together to Suita, Osaka and started living together. Even at the age of 111, she could still walk unassisted and practice calligraphy at her home.

Suganoya's age was verified by Yu Li, Yumi Yamamoto, and MHLW, Japan, and validated by the GRG on 8 February 2022.

Suganoya was last confirmed alive on 31 March 2022 when she lived in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. At the time of her going into limbo, she was the second-oldest known living person in Osaka Prefecture, behind Fusa Tatsumi, and the fifth-oldest living person in Japan, behind Kahoru Furuya, Anonymous of Hyogo, Fusa Tatsumi, and Kane Tanaka.
