Aida Chinhamissana Quechana (somewhere Aida Quechane; 5 March 1912? – 10 March 2022) was a Mozambican supercentenarian claim whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Aida Quechana claimed to have been born in Taninga, Manhica District, Maputo Province, Portuguese Mozambique (now Mozambique) on 5 March 1912. Her parents were Capetine Quechana and Canhacude Dimande. She spent her childhood in Manhica.

In 1951, she married Joao Solomone Cossa [Portuguese: João], who was 10 years older than her. She had 11 children (four boys and seven girls), including a pair of twins: three of them died in childhood. Her oldest daughter, Juliet Cossa, was aged 74 in 2016, and her youngest daughter, Leonor Cossa, was aged 60 in 2022. As of 2022, she had 50 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Because of the civil war, Quechana and her family fled from Manhica to Hulene neighbourhood, Maputo. Her husband built a house there. She was a marriage counsellor in Nkovo parish, who belonged to Presbyterian church.

At the claimed age of 104, Quechana was still able to walk with a walker. At the claimed age of 108, she became blind. At the time of her claimed 110th birthday in 2022, she was still able to eat without assistance, and was still eating meat.

Aida Quechana died of an illness at her home in Manhica District, Maputo Province, Mozambique in the morning of 10 March 2022, at the claimed age of 110 years, 5 days.
