Ajka Lokmic [Bosnian: Ajka Lokmić] (née Bešlagić) (4 May 1914 – 17 August 2024) was a Bosnian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is currently the oldest person who ever lived in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Biography[]

Ajka Lokmic was born as Ajka Beslagic in Bosanski Samac, Austria-Hungary (present-day Samac, Bosnia and Herzegovina) on 4 May 1914 to parents Mustafa Beslagic and Pasa Beslagic. At the age of three, she lost her parents, so she and her siblings were raised by her eldest brother Ibrahim in Sarajevo.

On 26 February 1940, at the age of 25, she married Nurija Lokmic (1915–1984). The couple had four children: Nurudin (1943), Zineta (1945), Semsudin (1948) and Zumreta (1953). Her husband owned a bakery, while she was a housewife. She has always been a devout Muslim, praying (Fard) and fasting throughout her entire life. From the age of seven until she reached 100, she fasted every Ramadan.

On 12 March 2021, following the death of 108-year-old Muska Porobic, she became the oldest known living person in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On 4 May 2024, she celebrated her 110th birthday becoming a supercentenarian, as well as the first female supercentenarian ever recorded in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On 20 May 2024, at the age of 110 years, 16 days, she surpassed the final age of Jovan Jovanovic (1906–2016), becoming the oldest person ever in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ajka Lokmic died in Stari Grad, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 17 August 2024 at the age of 110 years, 105 days. At the time of her death, she was the second-oldest living woman in the Balkans, behind 110-year-old Fikrije Loki of North Macedonia. She was also the last known survivor in Bosnia and Herzegovina born before 1918.
