Alberto Andrade (2 December 1911 – 8 October 2021) was a Portuguese centenarian who, together with his older brother Albano Andrade, was notable for being the oldest living pair of brothers in the world validated by Guinness World Records until Albano's death on 29 June 2021. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living man in Portugal.

Biography[]

Alberto Andrade was born in Sao Miguel de Souto, Santa Maria da Feira, Aveiro, Portugal on 2 December 1911 to Antonio Domingos de Andrade Junior (16 July 1863 - 12 November 1956 [1]) and Maria Ferreira de Andrade (3 December 1867 - 5 March 1961 [2]). His older brother Albano was born on 14 December 1909. Their parents married in 1891 [3].

Andrade completed school until fourth grade, choosing to instead work in agriculture. Andrade continued to work in agriculture until his 80s.

At the age of 48, he married Palmira Andrade (aged 85 in March 2018). The couple had three daughters, one son, five grandchildren and two great‐grandchildren.

In 2019, he and his brother were 107 and 109 years old respectively, and lived in Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal. Their combined age was an incredible 219 years, 62 days until Albano's death. Alberto and Albano were both born in their family home in Portugal, where they have lived their entire lives.

He became the oldest living man in Portugal upon the death of his brother Albano Andrade on 29 June 2021.

There was also a history of longevity in his family: both of his parents died at age 93. One of his nephews (the son of his oldest sister) died at 101  years old, and another one turned 100 in 2020.

Alberto Andrade died in Santa Maria da Feira, Aveiro, Portugal on 8 October 2021 at the age of 109 years, 310 days. Following his death, Jose Martins became the oldest known living man in Portugal, and Jose Fernandes Morgado of Brazil became the oldest known living Portuguese-born man.
