Biography[]
According to Daylight’s obituary, Alexander Daylight, one of the most noted Indians on the Colville reservation, is dead at the home of his grand-nephew, Francis Camile, seven miles from Kettle Falls. According to the Government rolls, Daylight was 114 years old at his death, but his own statements, verified by his associates, are that his age was 123 years. He used to tell of meeting and talking with David Thompson, the distinguished English geographer, who visited Kettle Falls on 23 July 1811. Daylight, however, disputed the claim of Thompson as being the discoverer of the falls and said that many moons before that date another white man traversed this region. Daylight had been totally blind for nearly a half century. He smoked tobacco incessantly until a very short time before his death and apparently enjoyed good health to the last. Alexander was born on 1799 in Washington and died in 1913 in Kettle Falls, Washington at the claimed age of 114.
