Alfred "Alfie" Date (8 November 1905 – 2 May 2016) was an Australian supercentenarian, who was the oldest living man in Australia[1] and the second oldest living person in Australia at the time of his death.
Biography
Alfred Samuel Date was born in London, England, on 8 November 1905. He moved with his parents, George and Harriet, to Australia in 1911, to escape the looming trouble in Europe.[2]
He also had a hobby for knitting which he learnt from his sister-in-law in the 1930's. In recent years, he knit jumper sweaters for penguins living in Phillip Island as a volunteer for a penguin foundation.[3]
He mentioned on his 108th birthday that he wanted two more birthdays.[2] On his 110th birthday, he was visited by Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove[4]
He died on 2 May 2016 at the age of 110 years, 176 days.[5]
