Alfreda Mary "Freda" Screaigh (née Marwick; 28 July 1913- 8 March 2024) was an Australian supercentenarian whose age is currently pending validation by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the oldest known living person in Western Australia, the oldest known living Australian-born person, and the second-oldest known living person in Australia, behind Marija Ruljancich.
Biography[]
Screaigh was born as Alfreda Mary Marwick in York, Western Australia, Australia, on 28 July 1913. In 1932, she married Charles Norman "Cobber" Screigh in York. The couple had one daughter, Patricia.
Screaigh has gotten her hearing checked on a regular basis since 2008, as she was becoming deaf. She considers it very important to get her hearing checked regularly.
To mark her 100th birthday in 2013, Screaigh celebrated with three different birthday parties. She was also presented with flowers from the clinic she goes to. She attributes her longevity to the country air, as well as not drinking alcohol or smoking.
In July 2023, Screaigh celebrated her 110th birthday, becoming a supercentenarian. For the occasion, she celebrated with five generations of her family.
Screaigh died in Mandurah, Western Australia, Australia, at the age of 110 years, 224 days.
