Ali Hussain (14 June 1913 – 5 August 2023) was a Maldivian supercentenarian who is currently the oldest known person ever to have lived in Maldives, as well as the first person from his country known to have reached the age of 110. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Ali Hussain was born in Hithadhoo, Addu City, Maldives, on 14 June 1913. In his youth, he worked very tirelessly, helping to foster his kids and expand his family over time. He helped to build a total of three homes for his children.
Hussain also worked for the British in Addu City. For work, he would walk a course of six kilometers from his home in Hithadhoo all the way to Abuheraa. He would come home for lunch, and would go back again; all the traveling he did was done on foot. When his work with the British came to an end, he collected toddies, building up his earnings upon selling them.
Hussain attributed his longevity to staying active his entire life, even in his later years. He reportedly never suffered from any major illnesses during his lifetime. His wife is currently bedridden.
Ali Hussain died in his sleep from natural causes in Manzaruge, Hithadhoo, Addu City, Maldives, on 5 August 2023, at the age of 110 years, 52 days. He had been in robust health up until his death. He was survived by his wife, nine children, 59 grandchildren, and 80 great-grandchildren.
