Ali Sulaiman (1915/1916 – 28 January 2022) was a Maldivian centenarian who was one of the oldest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was also among the oldest known living people in Maldives at the time of his death.

Biography[]

Sulaiman was born in Maldives in 1915 or 1916. Some time before his death, he tested positive for COVID-19.

Sulaiman died from COVID-19 on the morning of 28 January 2022 in Fathagumaage, Fuvahmulah, Maldives, at the age of 106 years. His funeral was held at 1:15 PM on the same day.

Following Sulaiman's death, Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed sent condolences to his family.

Sulaiman is believed to be the oldest known victim of the COVID-19 pandemic in Maldives. Prior to his death, a 102-year-old was believed to have been the oldest known person in the country to have died from the disease.
