Aloisia Karlhuber (née Scheuchenstuhl; 19 May 1907 – 21 July 2017) was an Austrian supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest known living person in Austria, behind Anna Medwenitsch and an anonymous woman born in March 1906.
Biography
Aloisia Karlhuber was born Aloisia Scheuchenstuhl in Haidershofen, Lower Austria, Austria on 19 May 1907 to parents Leopold and Maria Scheuchenstuhl. When she was six years old, she moved with her family to Kremsmunster, Upper Austria. The family returned to Haidershofen, Lower Austria, when Aloisia was 14. After taking a few tailoring lessons, Aloisia developed a passion for tailoring, and would make it her profession until she retired.
In 1934, she married driver Karl Karlhuber and later had four children with him: Gertrud (born 1938), Herta (born 1940), Maxi (born 1942) and Karl (born 1944). Maxi sadly died before his first birthday of pneumonia and measles. In 1947, Aloisia had one of her kidneys removed.
Karl Sr. died in 1961 after around 27 years of marriage. In August 2007, Aloisia moved into nursing home St. Peter. Her youngest son Karl Karlhuber Jr. died in 2015 aged 70.
Karlhuber died at St. Peter nursing home in Haidershofen, Amstetten, Lower Austria, Austria on 21 July 2017 at the age of 110 years, 63 days. Along with her two living children, she had six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
