Longevity claimant |
Amelia "Cecilia" Maco(o) [Portuguese: Amélia "Cecília" Macô(o)] (2 March 1906? - fl. 4 March 2021?) was a Mozambican longevity claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG). If her claimed age were validated, she would have been the death of Lucile Randon on 17 January 2023.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Amelia Macoo claimed to have been born in Chidenquele, Gaza Province, Portuguese Mozambique (now Mozambique) on 2 March 1906 (or 3 March 1906). Under colonial domination, she grew up working the countryside and taking care of domestic activities. She went married in the 1930s and had two daughters.
After her husband disappeared in the 1940s, Macoo did forced labor to transport sand for the construction of the current National Road Number One. It was these same activities that took her husband to an uncertain part, assuming that he was killed.
Later Life[]
Macoo later went to South Africa moved by the agitation of friends, looking for better conditions for survival. She remained in this country until the 1960s, when she returned to Mozambique and settled in Boquisso, where she never left. It is from this residential area, at the time composed mostly of machambas, that Amelia Macoo followed the great national events, as is the case with the proclamation of Independence, on 25 June 1975, and the signing of the General Peace Agreement, on 4 October 1994.
In March 2017, Macoo celebrated her claimed 111th birthday. At the time, she had two daughters, 19 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 62 great-great grandchildren.
In March 2021, at the claimed age of 115, Macoo was visited by Naidy Parruque, the wife of the governor of Maputo Province.
Amelia Macoo was last confirmed alive on 4 March 2021 at the claimed age of 115 years 2+ days. At that time she lived in Boquisso neighborhood, Matola, Maputo Province, Mozambique.
