Amelia Zito (born 30 June 1912) is an Italian centenarian who is one of the oldest known survivors of COVID-19, having recovered from the disease at the age of 108.
Biography
Zito was born on 30 June 1912 in Roccadaspide, Campania Region, Italy. She studied medicine, and for many years she worked as a gynecologist and obstetrician. According to her relatives, she delivered about 4000 children throughout her career. Zito had five children of her own, all of whom predeceased her. She has a passion for dancing, and has had friendships with Italian celebrities Orietta Berti and Gigliola Cinquetti.
Zito has lived in a retirement home in Genoa, Liguria Region, Italy since she was about 100. In 2020, she contracted COVID-19 during the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, she was unable to celebrate her 108th birthday on 30 June. She successfully recovered from the disease, and belatedly celebrated her birthday on 2 September.
