Amelie Courbiere [French: Amélie Courbière] (née Bauer; 22 March 1913 – 3 September 2023) was a French supercentenarian who was the oldest resident of the department of Essonne at the time of her death. Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2023.
Biography[]
Amelie Courbiere was born as Amelie Bauer in Bas-Rhin department, then Alsace (now Grand Est), France on 22 March 1913. She started working in a bakery aged 17, and later married her husband, who was a firefighter.
At the age of 102, Courbiere moved to Etampes [French: Étampes], a commune near the centre of Paris.
On her 106th birthday, Courbiere was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the mayor of Etampes, Bernard Laplace, as well as several other dignitaries.
By 2023, she was living in nearby Cerny. As a centenarian, she was a great-great-grandmother, and was known for her kindness to everyone.
In March 2023, Courbiere celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Amelie Courbiere died in Cerny, Essonne, Ile-de-France, France on 3 September 2023 at the age of 110 years, 165 days.
