Ana Nogueira de Luca (21 June 1896 – 18 November 2010) was a Brazilian supercentenarian who became the oldest living person in the world on 4 November 2010 after the death of Eugenie Blanchard until her death exactly 2 weeks later. Her age is validated by Gerontology Research Group (GRG).

Biography[]

Ana Nogueira was born in Pouso Alto, Minas Gerais, on 21 June 1896 on a farm called "Mosque", to Paulino Vito Nogueira and Mathilde Luiza Gonçalves. Her parents had seven children: João Pedro, Joseph Rosa, Francisco Joaquim Antonio, Gerard, and Maria da Conceição. Her father was the director of the school. Ana's mother died when she was 13, and Ana took care of her younger brother, Gerard. Then she was sent to live with a relative in Carmo de Minas for 3 years. Afterwards, she moved back to Pouso Alto. During this, her father remarried, to a cousin named Leopoldina. Ana married Egydio de Luca on 17 January 1917. She had 12 children with her husband: Marie Antoinette, Clelia, Mathilde, Geraldo, Angelo, Joseph, Egidio, Maria Clelia, Marina, Paul, Vito, and Nestor. Marie Antoinette, Clelia, Mathilde, and Geraldo died as infants. Her husband died on 17 January 1976. She broke her leg at the age of 98.

She died of cardiac arrest in Sao Sebastiao do Rio Verde, Minas Gerais on 18 November 2010 at the age of 114 years, 150 days. She was buried on Municipal Cemetery of Sao Sebastiao do Rio Verde. At the time of her death, she had 28 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

On 24 October 2009 she became the oldest living person in Brazil and in South America after the death of Placida Maria do Livramento aged of 114.

On 13 July 2010 she surpass the Placida Maria do Livramento to become the oldest Brazilian ever.

On 4 November 2010 at the age of 114 years and 136 days she became the oldest living person in the world after the death of the French woman Eugenie Blanchard who was 126 days older than Nogueira de Luca.

On 18 November 2010 (only 14 days after becoming the oldest living person in the world) she died of cardiac arrest in Sao Sebastiao do Rio Verde, Minas Gerais on 18 November 2010 at the age of 114 years, 150 days.

After her death another Brazilian woman Maria Gomes Valentim aged of 114 years and 132 days (18 days younger than her) became the oldest living person in the world. Maria Gomes Valentim surpassed Nogueira de Luca's age on 7 December 2010 to become the oldest Brazilian ever.
