Anastasia Athanassoulas (Greek: Αναστασία Αθανασούλας; 7 June 1898 – 15 August 2009) was a Greek supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). At the time of her death, she was the oldest known living person in Greece.
Biography[]
Anastasia Athanassoulas was born in present-day Greece on 7 June 1898. She married George Athanassoulas and had 10 children. Her eighth child was His Eminence Metropolitan Archbishop, Sotirios Athanassoulas of Toronto and Exarch of all Canada, born on 19 February 1936.
At the end of her life, she had 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Anastasia Athanassoulas died in the village of Lepiana, Arta, Epirus, Greece on 15 August 2009 at the age of 111 years, 69 days. She was buried on 19 August 2009. Following the her death, then 109-year-old Elpida Moschopoulos became the oldest known living person in Greece.
