Andjela Sostaric [Croatian: Anđela Šoštarić] (2 August 1913 – 8 May 2022) was a Croatian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Croatia at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Andjela Sostaric was born in Drenje Brdovecko [Croatian: Brdovečko], Zagreb County, Austria-Hungary (now Croatia) on 2 August 1913. Her mother lived to be 92. She had one sister. At age 15, she moved to Zagreb and worked there as housekeeper for various families until her marriage.

She married Mijo Sostaric at age 23. When World War II started, her husband was recruited and she was alone with the two children. She got widowed in 1982. She worked as farmer until retired at age 90.

Her youngest son died in 2018. As of August 2019, she had four granchildren and six great-granchildren.

She became the oldest living person in Croatia, following the death of 107-year-old Marija Bibulic on 16 April 2021.

Andjela Sostaric lived at her home with her son Stef (aged 82 in July 2021) and her daughter-in-law Andjela (aged 75 in July 2021) in Drenje Brdovecko, Zagreb County, Croatia where she died on 8 May 2022 at the age of 108 years, 279 days. Following her death, then 107-year-old Mara Gabelica became the oldest known living person in Croatia.
