Martha Anna Furrer-Omlin (23 June 1913 – 23 February 2025) was a Swiss supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Switzerland from the death of 111-year-old Marie Guerne on 23 February 2024, until her own death. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Martha Anna Omlin was born in Sachseln, Obwalden, Switzerland on 23 June 1913. She grew up on a farm with her four sisters and two brothers. She married Ambros Furrer in Sachseln in 1949 and had two sons. They lived in a rented house in the Taubach district before buying a house in Gotthardstrasse. She later moved to Erstfeld, Uri, Switzerland. Her husband died in 1989.
She was a member of the "13er club" in Erstfeld, a group of people born in 1913 who would meet regularly, and outlived all of her fellow members. At the age of 106, she lived with her two sons and did not need medication, glasses, or hearing aids.
In June 2023, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became the first supercentenarian in the canton of Uri.
On 23 February 2024, following the death of 111-year-old Marie Guerne, she became the oldest living person in Switzerland.
Martha Anna Furrer-Omlin died in Erstfeld, Uri, Switzerland on 23 February 2025 at the age of 111 years, 245 days.
