Anna Dorthea Nielsen (née Olsen; 2 April 1904 – 19 June 2015) was a Danish-Canadian supercentenarian. She was the second-oldest person in Canada when she died, only behind Marguerite Wabano. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Anna Nielsen was born in Cimbria, Falslev, Nordjylland, Denmark on 2 April 1904. She married Aage Damsgaard Nielsen (1900–1989), Their eldest child, Betty, was born in Denmark before migration to New Brunswick, Canada. Aage and Anna Nielsen ended up having six children together, five daughters and a son. Their son's name was Murley, who is now deceased. Their daughters were called Betty (also deceased), Molly, Norma, Joan, and Lula Hepperle, who all outlived their mother.
Nielsen lived in New Brunswick and Ontario until 1944, when she moved to British Columbia. Her husband Aage Nielsen died in 1989 after 66 years of marriage. On her 110th birthday in 2014, she was living at Langley Gardens Retirement Centre.
Anna Nielsen died on 19 June 2015 at the age of 111 years, 78 days. She was survived by four daughters, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren. Her age was verified by Waclaw Jan Kroczek and validated by the GRG on 17 January 2016.
