Anne Vernon (born Édith Antoinette Alexandrine Vignaud on 9 January 1924) is a retired French film and television actress and centenarian. Her career spanned from 1948 to 1970, during which she appeared in around 40 films. Three of these productions were selected for the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Vernon worked in international cinema, acting in French, British, Italian, and American films. As of 2025, she is regarded as one of the last surviving actresses who held leading roles during the cinema of the 1940s.

Biography[]

Born in 1924 in Saint-Denis, France, Édith Vignaud—known professionally as Anne Vernon—began her career in theater during World War II after training with Tania Balachova. She quickly gained recognition on stage and later transitioned to film, appearing in around fifty productions, including Édouard et Caroline (1951) and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). In the early 1970s, she retired from acting to focus on painting and later published a short story collection in 2016. Anne Vernon was married three times. in 2024,she became the oldest living French actress since the death of Micheline Presle at the age of 101.

She celebrated her 100th birthday in January 2024, becoming a centenarian.
