Basun Maya Rai (1 June 1905? – 1 March 2016) was a Bhutanese-born American supercentenarian claimant whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography
Basun Rai claimed to be born in Bhutan on 1 June 1905. She married at the age of 14, worked as a farmer, blessed with 14 children, and lived as a political refugee for over 20 years in Nepal. She was given the opportunity to come to Austin, Texas in 2010, and moved to Sioux Falls in 2014 to be with her family.
Rai loved to sing, dance, pray, and play with her children, and grandchildren; she became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls.
Rai died in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA, on 1 March 2016, at the claimed age of 110 years, 274 days.
