Longevity claimant

Batuli Lamichhane [Nepalese: बाटुली लामिछानेको] (23 March 1902? – 2 February 2024) was a Nepalese longevity claimant who claimed to be the world’s oldest living person at the time of her death. Her age is currently unvalidated by the Guinness World Records (GWR).

Biography[]

Batuli Lamichhane claimed that she was born in Gigarichaur in Sindhupalchowk District, Nepal on 23 March 1902. Her ID card lists her birthday as 23 March 1903 (which is the most likely one) although an article from 2015 listed her age was 115 years old and that she was born on 23 March 1900. She credited her long life to chain smoking 30 cigarettes a day – for 101 years. She took up smoking when she was 17 and she claims it’s her daily habit that has helped her outlive almost everyone else in her village – and her own children.

She celebrated her claimed 118th birthday in March 2020. In May 2022, she voted during the Nepalese local elections.

Batuli Lamichhane died in Nuwakot District, Nepal on 2 February 2024, at the claimed age of 121 years, 316 days. If her age is true, she may be the oldest person ever from Nepal, as well as the second-oldest person ever, behind Jeanne Calment. She would have also been older than Maria Branyas Morera, the oldest validated living person in the world, at the time of her death.
