Bedriska Adamickova [Czech: Bedřiška Adamičková] (6 October 1913 – 1 September 2023) was a Serbian-born Czech centenarian who was the oldest known living person in the Czech Republic, and the oldest known living Serbian-born person at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Bedriska Adamickova was born in Belgrade, Austria-Hungary (now Serbia) on 6 October 1913. Her parents were Jozef and Hermenegilda (née Mallovic) Adamickova. Her father was originally from Poland, while her mother was originally from Croatia. Thanks to their mother, who came from Yugoslavia from the Montenegrin border, they spoke Croatian at home, and Italian thanks to her grandmother, with her father, who was an Austrian officer, spoke German.
Her father died in Belgrade on 3 November 1917, as a result of typhus, at the age of 41. After some time, together with her mother, she moved from Belgrade to Prague, Czechoslovakia (now the capital of the Czech Republic). In Prague, she quickly learned Czech, then French and English at school. She graduated from the Faculty of Law in Prague. She never married or had children.
She became the oldest known living person born in Serbia, following the death of 113-year-old Veronika Zsilinszki of Hungary on 20 April 2021. Following the death of 109-year-old Zdenka Kasparova on 13 March 2023, she became the oldest known living person in the Czech Republic.
Bedriska Adamickova died in Prague, Czech Republic on 1 September 2023 at the age of 109 years, 330 days. She was also the last known surviving person in the Czech Republic born before 1916, and after her death, then 107-year-old Anonymous woman of the Olomouc Region became the oldest registered living person in the Czech Republic according to the data of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund.
