Biography[]
Benedicta Rodriguez claimed to have been born in El Cafetal, Sabanalarga, Casanare, Colombia on 4 August 1900.
She married Carlos Julio Ramirez, who died in 2007, with whom she had at least one son.
Following the death of her husband, she refused to move into a care home, instead living on her farm with a caretaker. Though she did still ask to be returned to her house every so often, forgetting the farm was where she lived. She still remembered certain events, often recalling when her son was killed during La Violencia. She still kept a good appetite and recovered from her fall quickly. She ate and drank whatever she wanted, when asked why, she said "You have to enjoy while you can, because you take nothing to the grave."
In March 2010, she celebrated her 110th birthday.
She walked until age 113, until when she fell and broke her hip while walking, requiring her to use a wheelchair from then on. She was notably short, at just 145 cm in height.
Ramirez died in Cundinamarca, Colombia on 21 May 2014 at the claimed age of 113 years, 290 days.
