Bertha Marie "Birdie" Mumma (née Gerig; 13 August 1891 – 17 November 2001) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) in 2014.

Biography[]

Bertha Mumma was born in Bieber, California, USA on 13 August 1891. Her parents were William Henry Gerig and Sarah Elizabeth (née Carmichael) Gerig. She had 10 siblings. She married Roy B. Mumma in 1919. The couple had 4 children: three sons Glen, Ray and Don and one daughter Flora who died at birth. She also adopted and raised her grandson Kent "Sonny" Mumma.

Members of her family had also experienced longevity: her brother William Gerig lived to be 91, her sister Lena Lyons lived to be 94, her sister Millie Waters lived to be 100, her brother Peter Gerig lived to be 102, her sister Keturah Farmer lived to be 98.

Bertha Mumma died in Brewster, Washington, USA on 17 November 2001 at the age of 110 years, 96 days. She is survived by her two sons, one daughter-in-law, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
