Betsy Lemmers-Kustner ( (5 April 1910 – 22 April 2018) was a Surinamese centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Suriname at the time of her death.

Biography[]

Betsy Lemmers-Kustner was born in Paramaribo, Paramaribo District, Suriname, on 5 April 1910. At some point, she married, and had two children (including Geert Lemmers) and took good care of them. Until the age of 99, she did some social work.

On 14 November 2013, following the death of 106-year-old Emanuel Pinas, she became the oldest known living person in Suriname.

In December 2015, at the age of 105, she met Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring, former first lady of Suriname. On her 108th birthday in 2018, the then vice president of the National Assembly, Melvin Bouva, gave a present to her.

Betsy Lemmers-Kustner died in Paramaribo, Paramaribo District, Suriname, on 22 April 2018, at the age of 108 years, 17 days. Following her death, then 105-year-old Louise Gummels became the oldest known living person in Suriname.
