Bienvenido Diaz Guilfu [Spanish: Bienvenido Díaz Guilfú] (12 July 1913 – 5 November 2023) was a Puerto Rican supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Puerto Rico at the time of his death. His age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Bienvenido Diaz Guilfu was born in Yaurel, Arroyo, Puerto Rico on 12 July 1913. His parents were Telesforo Diaz and Alejandrina Guilfu. He had at least five siblings. As a young man, he moved with his parents to Patillas, Puerto Rico.
He married Esmelania Gonzalez (still alive on his 100th birthday in 2013) and had 15 children.
As of July 2021, he had 43 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild.
He became the oldest known living man in Puerto Rico, following the death of 109-year-old Monico Rivera Gautier on 17 September 2022.
In July 2023, he celebrated his 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian. Following the death of 111-year-old Rosa Castrodad Melendez on 17 July 2023, he became the oldest known living person in Puerto Rico.
Diaz Guilfu died in Mulas, Patillas, Puerto Rico on 5 November 2023 at the age of 110 years, 116 days. Following his death, then 109-year-old Silverio Perez Rosado became the oldest known living man in Puerto Rico.
