William A. "Bill" Sheetz (17 May 1906 – 28 May 2016) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group.

Biography[]

Sheetz was born in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania on 17 May 1906, to Rev. William and Martha Sheetz. He was one of seven children. The family later moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

During WWII, Sheetz worked for the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot where he invented an automatic stop for the railroad. After retiring, he and his wife, Christine, started raising and showing West Highland Terriers. Christine died aged 97 in 2009, after 80 years of marriage. They had one daughter, Shirley.

Sheetz was still driving at 100, and only stopped after his driving license was revoked. He suffered from dementia in his later years. He died in Englewood, Florida, on 28 May 2016, aged 110 years, 11 days. At the time of his death, he was the third-oldest man in the United States, behind Clarence Matthews and Richard Overton.
