Birdie Elizabeth Johnson (née Kingsley; 9 November 1906 – 15 May 2017) was an American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group. She was believed to have been the oldest living resident of Oregon at the time of her death.
Biography
Birdie Elizabeth Kingsley was born on a farm in Mansfield, South Dakota, in 1906, and was the youngest of six children. She was the granddaughter of English immigrants who moved from New York to South Dakota after the Civil War. She married Theodore “Ted” Johnson in 1926, and left South Dakota. They had four children, all of whom are now in their 80s as of 2017. They moved to Oregon in 1937. Birdie worked in the SOS Packing Co. in Medford, Oregon. Ted Johnson died in 1988.
Johnson enjoyed playing Scrabble, playing piano, writing poetry, and painting. She had 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She died on 15 May 2017 at the age of 110 years, 187 days.
