Blackmon Ligon Shirley (15 June 1819?/February 1830? – 17 February 1933) was an American supercentenarian claimant from Tennessee whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Blackmon Shirley claimed to have born in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, Tennessee, USA on 15 June 1819. His parents were Jesse Beverly Shirley and Rebecca Shirley. He was raised in the Sequatchie Valley and lived in Bledsoe, Hamilton, and Davidson Counties in Tennessee until he moved to Texas in 1881. He had three wives: Mary Frances Worthington, by whom he had six children; Cassandre "Cassie" Elizabeth Dilbeck Fitts, by whom he had four children; and Annie Moore, by whom he had one daughter when he was 92 years old. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Company F, 15th Tennessee Infantry. He died in Springtown, Parker County, Texas, USA on 17 February 1933 at the claimed age of 113 years, 247 days (as reported on the death certificate), after he fell from a horse and then developed the flu. Blackmon's family has longevity history, Blackmon's daughter Sarah Jane Shirley Fitts (May 4 1847- February 28 1942) lived to be 94.
