Blazena Strachotova (née Fibichova) [Czech: Blažena Fibichová Strachotová] (9 February 1917 – 28 September 2025) was a Czech centenarian who was the oldest living person in the Czech Republic at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Blazena Strachotova was born in Slavičín, Zlín Region, Austria-Hungary (now Czech Republic), on 9 February 1917. Her father Rudolf Fibich and mother Františka Fibichová owned a large farm and bakery, which employed several people. After finishing primary school, she began her butcher's apprenticeship in Valašské Meziříčí, where she trained as a meat and sausage saleswoman after 8 years. After returning from Valašské Meziříčí, she became acquainted with Jaroslav Strachota (1913–1977), who, like her, came from Slavičín. Jaroslav Strachota had to enlist in the Czechoslovak Army in September 1938, but returned home after the Munich Agreement. They got married in 1939. The young couple inherited the local soda factory, which Jaroslav's father Oswald Strachota had founded in 1919. The business prospered during World War II. The couple had two sons, Jan and Jaroslav. Blažena was an eyewitness to an air battle that took place between American planes and German fighters on 29 August 1944, near Slavičín, during which 28 American airmen died. In 1945, Slavičín was liberated by the Romanian army. After the communist coup, Strachot's soda factory was nationalized in 1950, and the couple moved to Ostrava and then to Brno for new work. In 1977, the family moved to České Budějovice. Her husband Jaroslav died on 9 November 1977.
On 8 July 2024, following the death of 107-year-old Filomena Kolomaznikova, she became the oldest known living person in the Czech Republic.
Blazena Strachotova died in České Budějovice, South Bohemian Region, Czech Republic, on 28 September 2025, at the age of 108 years, 231 days. Following her death, then 107-year-old Karla Kockova became the oldest known living person in the Czech Republic.
