Carlo Pietro De Leonardis (2 January 1915 – 6 April 2023), known as "Don Carlo", was an Italian-Bolivian centenarian who, at the time of his death, was the oldest known living man and person in Bolivia. He was also the grandson of the explorer Pietro Felter (4 August 1856 – 25 January 1915).

Biography[]

Carlo Pietro De Leonardis was born to Pierina Felter and Francesco De Leonardis in Sabbio Chiese, Lombardy, Italy, on 2 January 1915. His grandfather, Pietro Felter, died just 23 days after Carlo was born.

In the late 1940s, he moved to Colombia as part of a mining research expedition, and he later returned to Italy. In the 1950s, he moved to Bolivia, where he made contact with South American companies such as Techint.

He also worked as a representative for Alitalia and Fiat Industriale, and was later appointed as a marshal for the order of Malta, first plenipotentiary, and then ambassador, as well as receiving from the Bolivian government, as a sign of esteem.

He became the oldest known living man and person in Bolivia, following the death of 108-year-old Jose Alejandro Pradel Loayza on 3 September 2022.

As of his 108th birthday in 2022, he was still able to read the newspaper everyday. He had two daughters, Barbara and Elisabeth.

Carlo Pietro De Leonardis died in La Paz, Bolivia, during the early morning hours on 6 April 2023, at the age of 108 years, 94 days. At the time of his death, he was still lucid and able to engage in conversations. Following his death, then 106-year-old Samuel Chuquimia Murillo became the oldest known living man in Bolivia.
