Biography

Velardi is the second-oldest person in Sicily, behind the 112-year-old Mariannina Genovese, and the ninth of Italy. She lives in the district of San Giovanni, in Milazzo, Sicily, with one her six children, Gloria, and the family of her granddaughter, Gioia, who owns a toy store. She is still lucid though with some understandable ailment. She doesn't eat much, but in front of the chocolate she can't resist. She always made the housewife, even though relatives remember that she had a short appearance cinematographic in the film "Vacanze d'amore" by director Jean Paul Le Chanois, shot in Cefalù, Sicily, in 1955. In this film she portrayed the mother of the actress Delia Scala.

Mrs Carmela Velardi celebrated her 111 years on 22 October 2017, surrounded by her daughters and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and has also received the visit of Mayor and a councillor.
