Carmen Gongora de Yaggi [Spanish: Góngora] (21 September 1857 – 3 June 1968) was an Argentine supercentenarian whose age is currently unvalidated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG). She was the first-known Latin American supercentenarian.

Biography[]

Carmen Gongora de Yaggi was born in the street of Calle 4 de Enero, Santa Fe City, Santa Fe Province, Argentina on 21 September 1857.

She married with a rancher born in Switzerland in 1880. The couple had 10 children She returned to the city of Santa Fe in 1908, after the death of her husband.

At the age of 107, she was still very lucid, she was able to help with the cleaning of her house, she was still able to sew and read without any difficulty. At that time, she lived with her daughter, Ercilia Yaggi de Ascención.

Gongora de Yaggi died in Santa Fe City, Santa Fe Province, Argentina on 3 June 1968 at the age of 110 years, 256 days. At the time of her death, she may have been the fifth-oldest known living person in the world, behind Narcissa Rickman, Georgette Jeanmaire, Johanna Booysen, and Tome Horigome.
