Catherine Anna Bean (née Powers; 3 June 1884 – 6 October 1994) was an American supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in the U.S. state of Idaho at the time of her death. Her age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
Biography[]
Bean was born as Catherine Anna Powers in Bullion, Idaho, on 3 June 1884. At the age of three, her family moved from Bullion to Mullan, Idaho, where she lived for the majority of her life.
Bean worked as a homemaker, and was also a longtime member of the St. Michael's Church. She was married to William Bean.
Bean was described as a very helpful person. In 1910, she made soup for firefighters while they were battling wildfires in Idaho and Montana. As a member of the St. Michael's Church, she did the laundry and made dinner for the priests. She also helped out with Masses and Communions.
For the last 10 years of her life, Bean lived at the Shoshone Living Center in Kellogg, Idaho. In June 1994, she celebrated her 110th birthday and became a supercentenarian.
Bean died on 6 October 1994, at the age of 110 years, 125 days. She was survived by three daughters-in-law, 10 grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held in Mullan.
