Catherine M. Dion (née Allain; formely Beland; 26 July 1901 – 21 June 2012) was a Canadian-American supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG)

Biography[]

Catherine Dion was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada on 26 July 1901. Her parents were Charles Allain and Elizabeth (née Gaudet) Allain. She had at least one brother: Peter Allain.

She married Alfred Beland and had two children: Ivan Beland (1926–1991) and Dorothy Beland (1928–1937). She got widowed in 1931.

She married Ernest Dion in 1944. The couple not had children. She got widowed in 1998.

She worked in the Lawrence Textile Mills, after immigrating from Canada at the age of 18. Later she was a homemaker caring for her children, and was also a cafeteria worker at the Lawrence Vocational School after her retirement.

She was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Parish in Lawrence, where she witnessed the Church’s opening and closing. She was the recipient of the Boston Post Cane Recognition Award for being the oldest person living in Derry, New Hampshire where she resided with her granddaughter Beverly. She enjoyed playing cards, especially 45’s, bowling and spending time with her family. She helped raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren after the passing of their mothers at an early age.

She drove until she was 97 and continued to help with yard work until she was almost 100 years old.

Catherine Dion died at Grace House in Windham, New Hampshire, USA on 21 June 2012 at the age of 110 years, 331 days. She was survived by four grandchildren Beverly Proulx and her husband Denis, Marcia Blackington, Alan Beland and Diane Beland; 13 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-granchildren and several nieces and nephews.
