Catherine Furey (née Hickey; 6 April 1893 – 30 November 2003) was a validated Irish-American supercentenarian.
Biography
Catherine Hickey was born on a farm in Kilbride near Roscommon, Ireland (then part of the UK), on 6 April 1893.
She emigrated to Boston, United States, with her sister Beatrice in 1913. She worked as a cook, nanny and housekeeper in Providence, Rhode Island and in Central Park West in New York. In 1927, she married a Galway-born milkman Simon Furey. The couple had two children. Her husband died during the second World War and Catherine went back to work in a cafeteria in a boys’ school in Garden City.
Catherine Furey died in Saint James, Suffolk County, New York, USA on 30 November 2003 at the age of 110 years, 238 days.
