Catherine Cornelia Waller (née Alexander; 1 December 1848 – 4 January 1959) was an American supercentenarian whose age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 14 November 2022.
Biography[]
Catherine Alexander was born in Somerville, Tennessee on 1 December 1848 to Wilson and Jane Alexander. She married D T Waller in Shelby, Tennessee on 2 December 1875 and the couple soon thereafter settled in what was to become Luxora, Arkansas. Waller gave birth to three daughters, one of them named Luxora, whom the town was named after. D T Waller died in 1890, leaving Catherine a widow for the last 68 years of her life.
Waller died in Luxora, Arkansas on 4 January 1959, aged 110 years, 34 days. At the time of her death, she had the world's oldest living person for nearly 2 years, succeeding Mathias Hansen Saether, who passed away on 7 January 1957.
