Celian Irene "Martin" Powell (19 January 1912 – 30 September 2019) was a Kittian and Nevisian centenarian who was the oldest living person in Saint Kitts and Nevis at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Celian Powell was born in Zion Village, Nevis, Saint Kitts and Nevis, on 19 January 1912, to Dorcas “Jimmy” Manners and “Tutsie” Powell, but lost both parents at an early age. Her early life was one of hardship. At some point, she married and had had two children.
On 17 June 2016, following the death of 105-year-old Ismay Sweeney, she became the oldest known living person in in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
In 2019, she celebrated her 107th birthday at the Flamboyant Nursing Home in Charlestown. She was the grandmother of Senator Hon, Carlisle Powell, and the great-grandmother of Spice Girls singer Mel B and West Indies cricketer Kieran Powell.
Celian Powell died in Charlestown, Nevis, Saint Kitts and Nevis, on 30 September 2019, at the age of 107 years, 254 days. Following her death, then 103-year-old Una Duporte, became the oldest known living person in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
