Cesare Mattana (7 June 1893 – 21 July 2002) was an Italian centenarian and World War I veteran. At the time of his death, he was the third-oldest living man in Italy, after Antonio Todde and Giovanni Frau.
Biography[]
Cesare Mattana was born in Quartucciu, Sardinia, Italy on 7 June 1893. He fought in World War I. Some years later, he emigrated to France, where he stayed until the beginning of World War II.
Mattana lived in Burranca, Sardinia, but moved to Quartu Sant'Elena some years before his death. On his 109th birthday in 2002, he was honoured with a medal by Davide Galantuomo, the mayor of Quartu Sant'Elena.
Cesare Mattana died in Quartu Sant'Elena, Sardinia, Italy on 21 July 2002, at the age of 109 years, 44 days.
