Charlie Phillips (5 May 1870 – 5 September 1980) was a American supercentenarian retroactively considered to the "Oldest Living Man" as a result of his age validation through the SSA Study. His case was later accepted by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on the basis of the SSA study findings. He was the oldest man ever from Mississippi until his age was surpassed by William McDaniel
Biography
Charlie Phillips was born in Mississippi, United States on 5 May 1870. Based on his 1870, 1880, and 1900 US Census entries, he might have been a year older than claimed, being born in 1869 instead of in 1870.
He became the oldest known living man in the United States and the world, following the death of 110-year-old Charlie Nelson on 20 August 1978.
Charlie Phillips died in in Mississippi, United States on 5 September 1980 at the age of 110 years, 123 days. After his death Zachariah Blackistone became worlds oldest living man.
