Charlotte Cardinal (15 September 1799 – 8 March 1905) was a Belgian centenarian who was the oldest known living person in Belgium at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Charlotte Cardinal was born in Herchies, Jurbise, Hainaut, Belgium on 15 September 1799, the daughter of farmer Benoni Cardinal and Marie-Justine Rosalie Legrand. When the Belgian Revolution broke out, her father - as a carrier of foodstuffs - joined the French army units of Emperor Napoleon I.
She married Francois Brunin in 1816. The couple had five children: three daughters and two sons, all lived beyond the age of 80. Francois died in 1850.
On 16 September 1899, she celebrated her 100th birthday in her native village and would be allowed to take place on her jubilee throne for five consecutive years. She had never been ill and remained healthy in mind and body. She still managed the farm with a son of hers.
Cardinal died in Herchies, Jurbise, Hainaut, Belgium on 8 March 1905 at the age of 105 years, 174 days. At the time of her death, she had five generations of descendents.
