Charlotte Gibson (2 April 1896 – 5 February 2007) was a British supercentenarian whose age is validated by the Gerontology Research Group. She was the third-oldest living person in Britain at the time of her death.
Biography
Early Life
Gibson was born on 2 April 1896 in Womersley, North Yorkshire, England. She was the seventh of eight children. She was married to George Gibson, an electrician. The had two sons, Gerald and Maurice, both of whom she outlived. Gibson lived in Leeds, West Yorkshire before moving to Harrogate, North Yorkshire, in the 1960s.
Later Life
Gibson went on her first trip abroad — a visit to Paris — at the age of 100. She lived in her own flat until she was 104, before moving in to a care home in Harrogate. She became a supercentenarian in 2006. At the time of her 110th birthday, she had four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
At the age of 110, Gibson was featured in a documentary, The Oldest People In The World, where she said that she believed living to 110 was "a bit too long". Her nursing home closed down when she was 110, forcing her to move to another home nearby. She died on 5 February 2007 at the age of 110 years, 309 days.
