Clementina Saldarriaga Correa (11 August 1902 – 15 October 2012) was a Colombian supercentenarian who was the oldest known living person in Colombia at the time of her death.
Biography[]
Clementina Saldarriaga Correa was born in El Poblado, Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia on 11 August 1902, the 3rd child born to parents José Vidal Saldarriaga Posada and Inés Correa Vélez. Her parents married on 8 May 1899, and had their first child one year later. In total, the family would have 13 children. At the time of her birth, El Poblado was still very green, with big ranches and pastures. Clementina never married and nor had children. When both of her parents died, she went living with her sister Laura, who was also single. The sisters lived together for 40 years. They lived in a big house with a backyard, where they would plant flowers, take care of chickens, as well as sewing, hosting visitors and listening to the radio. Her family said that both sisters use to go to church frequently and they were known by everyone in the neighborhood. After Laura's death on 11 March 1984, Clementina's other sister, Isabel, decided to take her to live with her and her nieces.
Until her centenarian years, Clementina was still very active. She used to sew and do crochet, which she would give to people. At the age of 108, Clementina became bedridden.
She became the oldest known living person in Colombia, following the death of 112-year-old Magdalena Hernandez in July 2012.
Clementina Saldarriaga Correa died in her apartment in El Poblado, Medellin, Colombia on 15 October 2012, aged 110 years, 65 days. At the time of her death, she lived with her nieces, Marta and Margarita. Her sister, Margarita Saldarriaga , who was a nun, was still alive aged 101.
