Cleo Hinckley (née Cranney; 13 October 1890 – 30 September 2002) was a verified American supercentenarian. She was the oldest known people in the US state of Utah at the time of her death.

Biography[]

She was born in Logan, Utah on 13 October 1890. She was the sixth child of Willard Diane Cranney, a pioneer who crossed the plains to Utah at age 14 in 1862. Her mother, Hattie Woolf Cranney, died during childbirth when Cleo was 6.

She attended Utah Agricultural College in Logan and later became secretary to the president of the college. She also later worked as a secretary for several Salt Lake City businesses.

She married Parnell Hinckley on 19 September 1919, shortly after his return from World War I. The couple had 6 children. Her family lost their farm during the Great Depression. Her family then returned to Salt Lake City in 1930 and bought the house where they would live for the rest of their lives.

She had been employed briefly for the Works Projects Administration and served on the Granite Stake Relief Society and Young Women's Mutual boards. Her husband death in 1984 at the age of 95.

Members of her family had also experienced longevity: her great-grandmother lived to be 91, her father lived to be 92, her aunt Rhoda Woolf lived to be 91, her brother Martin Cranney lived to be 97, her sister Florence Cranney lived to be 99. Her cousin, Florence Canonic (8 February 1902 – 25 December 2012) was also a supercentenarian.

She died in Salt Lake City, Utah on 30 September 2002 at the age of 111 years, 352 days. She was survived by 6 children, 39 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
