Cyrillus-Camillus Barbary (4 August 1899 – 16 September 2004) was a Belgian-American centenarian and the last known Belgian veteran of the First World War.
Biography
Barbary was born in Klerken, West Flanders, Belgium on 4 August 1899. He served on the Western Front in the 2nd Regiment of the Line for the last months of the war, between May 1918 and January 1919. He emigrated to the United States with his wife Emma in 1923. Emma died in 1991.
He became the last known Belgian veteran of the First World War, following the death of 104-year-old Emile Brichard on 8 July 2004.
Barbary died in Detroit, Michigan, USA on 16 September 2004 at the age of 105 years, 43 days. He was survived by three children, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.[1][2][3]
